Progress has been made

Reece FINALLY made some progress in swimming lessons. She is putting her head in the water. This is huge. So we have signed up for another week. I hate to stop when she was getting into it.

Addie did great this week. She doesn't shake her head feverishly when she goes under water anymore. She will "jump" from a sitting position on the side of the pool and do the monkey crawl along the side of the pool.

I was really starting to think the the girls just did not like each other. They spend a good bit of the day fussing at one another and just not being sweet. But then, just as I am about to pull my hair out, they do this...

They pulled the cushions off of the sofa upstairs and made a pallet on the floor to watch TV. This was no prompting. Genuine love for each other. And it lasted about 15 minutes from the time that I noticed.

This is just another sweet picture I wanted to share.

And yes... our hair always looks this bad.

The question is why?

Every young child's favorite question is why. While I don't always have an answer, I have come up with one that works great for many questions. "It's magic!"

Please answer the following with my favorite phrases "It's magic"

  • Why is the sky blue?
  • How did you do that?
  • How did that baby get in her tummy?
  • Why is that boy's hair orange?
  • How does the car drive?
It is not the prefect answer and sometimes I do dig deep for the real answer. BUT when the question is the 15th in 30 minutes, my answer works great! Why, because it's magic!

Sobs, Shrikes, Shrills, and Screams

The sounds that fill my world ~as defined by this Stay-at-home-Mom

SOBS - verb, (sobs) - the noise that is made when a 4 year old is told they will be taking an afternoon nap; generally included - large tears, head thrown back, NNOOOOO!!!!, "I'm not tired", and an occasional meltdown to the floor

SHRIKE - verb, (shrikes) - the sound of excitement for any child age 12 months to 18 years, very high pitched, followed by a giggle or laugh; or sound heard when a bug chases a little girl

SHRILL - verb, (shrills) - a combination sound made by the younger of 2 children when excitement turns into fear, anger, or frustration; starts off as a happy noise followed by whines, cries, and pouts ending with younger child at the feet of the closest parent.

SCREAM - verb, (screams) - every other noise that comes out the mouth of a child; can be good or bad, happy or sad, calm or panic. ALWAYS too loud and uncalled for

Please feel free to add the noises made by children that fill your lives.

Boycott

Let's face it. There are many things in life that I would like to boycott. Paying my mortgage-never an option. Doing laundry - also never an option. Cooking dinner - occasionally. Shaving my legs, sometimes a winter option. But most definitely -not a option this week. Reece has swimming lessons as do Addie and I. But a great thing happened yesterday at swimming lessons., well 2 great things.

#1 - Reece got in th water with the teacher without much of a fight. We may be signing up for another session.

#2 - I ran into friend from high school that I haven't seen in 12 years!!! Her name is Amy (Amy Ford, but not Ford anymore) and she lives in Melissa. But is moving back to Frisco in the next couple of weeks. Pretty close to where we will. I am just excited about catching up with her after all this time.

Got to run!! swimming lessons...

Here she is...

As promised, here are some pictures of Reece with her new glasses. She is still trying to get used to them. I think she is doing very well. I let her pick out several glasses at the shop and then the sales woman and I convinced Reece which looked the best on her. She is very proud of them.

Reece's new look...Coming soon

It is confirmed. Reece will be wearing glasses in the near future. We will start shopping this week for some super cute frames. She and I talked about it this evening and she is good with wearing glasses...in theory that is. We will see how it goes when they are actually here. If it were up to her, I am sure that they will be pink, purple, and yellow because those are her favorite colors.

I am super proud of Reece though. She was such a champ during the whole, L-O-N-G appointment. She did just as they asked of her. My heart kind of fell to the floor when she told the tech that the pictures "were too small". To me, they were huge. But how in the world would she ever know to even come up and tell me that something was too small for her to see. She has known nothing else. Broke my heart.

On a completely different topic...

Have you ever Googled your name or anyone that you know? Kind of interesting. I tired the other night. I found one post that was correct but it was from an old health care reference site. It needs to be taken down. Then I came across and genealogy site. Let me just say, there are not that may Maywalds in the USA. I think that they all live in Texas. I know for sure that there were many more Courts at my family Easter a couple years ago.

Funny Girls

Getting Reece to eat it dinner is difficult at best. She likes to play and talk and sing and do anything but what the rest of us are doing which is eating. So every night was have to count 1..2...3 to get her to eat or go to time out. I know we are doing it all wrong but roll with me here. Well, smart little Addie is now into the game. She is trying to talk and last night mimicked us counting to Reece. She held out her little hand, moving one finger at a time as she "counted" to 3. Then tried to say "Bite" (as in take a bite). She was so proud of herself. And smiled so big. Chad and I couldn't help but laugh. If you cross your arms, she will too.
